Abstract

This research aims to study the phenomenon of verbal paradox in the poetry of sixth century  as one of the artistic  means that had a great impact in creating amazement and breaking the horizon of expectation for the recipients . It commonly possesses the verbal connotations intended for contradictory connotations، which made this Poetry is a wide field for new readings. It would reveal the richness of the poetic text and its linguistic nature. This study was represented by an introduction، an introductory threshold، and two sections. In the introductory threshold, the researchers presented a brief overview of the concept of paradox linguistically and idiomatically, and what is verbal paradox means. As for the first topic, we dealt with the paradox of antagonism. The other topic is the paradox of anaphora, as they are among the most prominent forms of verbal paradox in this poetry. In conclusion، we mentioned the most important results that we reached in this studwy .
