The Efforts of Islamic Scholars in Modern Times to Revitalize the Study of Compara-tive Religion: Ismail Al-Faruqi as a Model
Abstract
This research highlights the importance of renewal in Islamic sciences in response to contemporary challenges. Just as early Muslim scholars pioneered the establishment of the foundations and scientific methodology for the study of comparative religion, modern Islamic scholarship has also witnessed the emergence of scholars who have significantly contributed to revitalizing this field. This study focuses on an important aspect of these efforts by examining the contributions of the Islamic thinker Ismail Al-Faruqi (may Allah have mercy on him), who authored works of substantial intellectual value in the field of comparative religion and the history of religions. Al-Faruqi’s approach was modern and addressed contemporary intellectual challenges, leaving a clear and distinctive impact in this domain.
