Abstract

The aim of this research is to study anomalies in verbs and particles as analyzed by Al-Radi Al-Istarabadi (d. 686 AH) in his commentary on Ibn Al-Hajib's "Al-Kafiya". This involves illustrating the applications of anomalous forms according to him and then elucidating their influence on his preferential judgments. This clarifies the research problem which lies in understanding the dimensions of analogy according to both Basrans and Kufans, especially among the later scholars. The Basrans' criterion for anomaly is based on quantity and quality, and on transmission contrary to linguistic norms despite its eloquence. On the other hand, the Kufans' stance on analogy based on anomalies includes accepting and citing them, making every anomaly a rule because they extensively relied on hearing. They do not consider quantity and quality as criteria. Anomalies here are not meant to be mistakes or improper forms, but rather eloquent expressions used by Arabs. Al-Radi's stance on anomalies aligns with the Basrans in not basing analogies on anomalies. This study employs both descriptive and analytical methodologies, and it concludes with several important findings, primarily clarifying the general concept related to the phenomenon of anomalies in verbs and particles. The study is divided into two sections: the first section deals with anomalies in verbs, while the second addresses anomalies in particles. Each issue deemed anomalous by Al-Radi is supplemented with the opinions and arguments of grammarians, as well as Al-Radi's stance on it.
